El “must de Canarias”, also travellers’ choice no. 1 in the world in 2017, Loro Parque is without a doubt our enthusiastic recommendations for your Tenerife holiday. FYI – Loro means parrot in Spanish. We’ve been to Loro way too many times, which means that the place is more than a zoo. We like the park as a whole, we love that they save endangered animals, treat them and include them in their big ‘family’ show. Let us just walk you through the experience, and you can decide for yourself.
First, a visit to Loro Parque is a one day activity, even if you’re getting there from the South or the North of the island. It is opened daily, from 8:30h to 18:45h. The park is in Puerto de la Cruz, which is, itself, an amazing place to spend a day at the beach (Playa Jardin), or by the pool (Lago Martiánez), explore the city and have some local food, but this is for another day. You can get to Loro by car, there are plenty of paid parking places, but make sure to get there before 11.00 am in the high season, or take the bus from the South, a paid service they provide with prior reservation or if you happen to be in Puerto de la Cruz, take the Loro Free Express Train from Reyes Católicos every 20 minutes, free of charge.
You have several options for the type of visit you are planning to take, starting with €37,00 per adult: basic tickets: park entrance and access to all its areas and shows; premium tickets which include park entrance, discovery tour of 1h45m, reserved seats at the orcas, sea lions and dolphins shows, lunch at the Grill Restaurant “Patio del Loro”; diamond tour including Discovery Tour, VIP seats reserved at the shows and lunch at Brunelli’s Steakhouse (located in front of the park) and twin tickets, with or without lunch, highly recommended if you’re planning to visit both Loro and Siam. Irrespective of the tickets you purchase, there is a free entry for children under 6 and special prices for children from 6 to 11. Once in, make sure to get the map and shows timetable to organize your visit around the ones you really don’t want to miss. There are, for example, three orca shows every day. Some tourists stand in line before the opening hours, to secure the seat they want, like those in the splash zone, which are plenty, because those orcas can really splash. A diamond ticket which includes the Discovery Tour may be a good option to have your day fully organized by the inside team and make sure you get on time and have the best seats secured at the crowded shows.

It may seem very tourist of you, but we do recommend taking that photo at the beginning of the itinerary in the park. It’s a nice memory, one of the few printed photos you will have from this holiday, and, above all, you are all in it, excluding the selfies where you catch only the tip of the head of your youngest.
Take the whole tour, look at all small and big animals, the penguins, the parrots, lots of them (hence the name of the park), the aquarium, natura vision, the playground for kids. This is not just a family experience; you will definitely enjoy it, all grown up and everything.

Even if you’ll find shade in many areas of the park, which makes this a perfect activity for a out of the sun day, don’t forget to put sunscreen on, we’re still on a sunny island.

Q Can I smoke inside the park?

There are special indicated areas where you can smoke.

Q Is there WiFi network in the park?

Yes, Free WiFi for Loro Parque guests.

Q Can I bring my dog?

Sorry, pets are not allowed, with the exception of guide dogs

Q Can I rent a cart for children?

Yes, the price would be 5 € per day and a 45 € deposit is required.

Q What to do if I forget my backpack at one of the shows?

In case you lose something, you can ask for help at the Public Relations desk at the entrance.

Q Are there any interactive activities with animals?

Not really. However, you can book a special moment with the dolphins for children. Talk to the park staff at the entrance to find out availability and prices.

Q What’s with the name?

Loro means parrot in Spanish. Founded in December 1972, Loro Parque was initially conceived as a paradise for parrots.

Q Do I need cash in the park?

Some snacks and drinks kiosks only accept cash. You may also like to carry some one euro coins for kids to take the orca ‘roller coaster’ at the children playground or be amazed by the coin chase at the donation fountains you will find around the park.

Q Is this another zoo?

We really believe the story behind the business. Loro Parque and the foundation seem dedicated to animal care. The work they do appears to be vital in saving some animal lives, like orcas and chimpanzees on the decline. We trust their approach towards conserving, inspiring and educating the world about wildlife. We witnessed the dedication of the staff and trainers, their great care of the animals, and the relationship between animal and trainer. Other than that, it’s a personal call whether to visit the park or not.

Q Tell me something I don’t know

Go wild in the world's most impressive animal park. Also remember, this is an opportunity to learn and discover new things, understand the unknown and treat every form of life with respect and kindness.

We spend a great day at Loro. We stayed more than 8 hours here! We took the discovery tour, did not have to queue at all and arrived at 9.30am to have all the time in the world to visit. The shows were excellent. We love animals and pay attention to the care they receive. The trainers and all staff seemed really respectful and loving towards the orcas, dolphins, birds. A great place to see such beauty and variety of animals.

Don’t miss this! We just visited yesterday and we’re soooo glad we did. We usually try to avoidzoos and of any kind but this park is special. We saw a lot of animals, very well taken care of, very well fed, nurtured from birth to adulthood. We had a great time, and enjoyed every moment spent there. The discovery tour was a very nice surprise, and the food was quite good, considering the price per menu. Definitely recommended!
